What it does do is find the best correspondence between reason and reality, and there is simply no real deity, especially not God, in anything science has discovered about the natural world. The need for proof against God's existence is a misdirection anyway. You don't need proof that Santa Claus is not real, do you? No, what you get are facts that make the existence of Santa Claus extremely unlikely to such a degree that Santa would have to be possessing millions of caretakers simultaneously every second to exist at all. You hardly need science to then think that anyone who believes there is a real Santa Claus is an ignorant person and wrong.
